Dr. Courtney Wittekind

Courtney Wittekind is a sociocultural and media anthropologist researching political transition, spatial politics, and futurity in Southeast Asia. She's currently a Postdoctoral Associate in Yale's Program in Agrarian Studies. Prior to arriving at Yale, she completed her Ph.D. in Social Anthropology at Harvard in 2022, and received an M.Phil in Social & Cultural Anthropology at the University of Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar in 2016, and holds an interdisciplinary undergraduate degree from Carnegie Mellon University. She has lived and worked in Yangon, Mawlamyine, and Taunggyi for many years, and her most recent research explores plans to build a “new city” in the outskirts of Yangon.
