The President of Parami University, Dr. Kyaw Moe Tun, and the Director of Admissions and Student Affairs, Aung Myin Thu, led the session with humility and vision, creating a space where families could share their concerns, ask questions, and better understand their children's academic journey. Parents and guardians shared concerns about academic challenges, emotional stress from studying away, and financial hardship after the March earthquake in Myanmar.

In this edition of People of Parami, we highlight Alexandra Dingle, an academic advisor whose global journey and deep commitment to equitable education have made her a valued part of the Parami community. Raised in New York City, Alexandra—known affectionately by students and colleagues as Alex—was drawn to the diversity around her from a young age.

Since joining in 2023, Anny has provided holistic academic advising, helping students choose courses, manage challenges, apply for scholarships, and build confidence.

Dr. Kyaw Moe Tun, President of Parami University, delivered a powerful message about the need for “principled pragmatism” in leading institutions amid national collapse and authoritarian oppression. 

The trip allowed participants to explore the different aspects of the Karenni Tribes (Kayan, Kayah, or Kayaw communities), including cultural preservation and sustainable economic relations with neighboring Thai communities. 

The Institutional Advancement team at Parami University launched a monthly Virtual Burmese Tea Talk Series early this year to provide a space for long-time supporters and undergraduate students to explore personal vision, financial literacy, and global change.

"We met with people with different struggles. In Amarapura, people were not living in good conditions even before the earthquake struck Myanmar. They live in a makeshift shelter, and waste is everywhere. In Sagaing, some people lost their homes to the earthquake, and rebuilding a new house is impossible for them. We met with IDPs, who had lost their homes to the war in the area and took refuge in the monasteries, Nick described.
