PUCDC Career Talk Series: A Lifelong Advocate for Gender Equality

ree

What does it take to challenge the status quo and champion equality across cultures and communities?

On November 6, 2025, Parami University’s Career Development Center invited students, alumni, and partners to explore this very question during the fourth session of its Career Talk Series, “A Lifelong Advocate for Gender Equality.” Featuring Rani Pramesti, Executive Director at Wedu, a lifelong advocate for gender equality, who comes from a long line of Chinese Indonesian women advocates, changemakers, and entrepreneurs. For over 18 years, Rani has dedicated her career to uplifting and collaborating with systemically marginalized communities, including refugee and migrant women, communities of diverse SOGIESC, racialized communities, and Indigenous and First Nations people.

Along with Rani, her colleague, Dah, Strategic Partnerships and Education Financing Manager at Wedu, who has years of experience working in women's empowerment in her community, joined in the conversation to make the session even more interesting and engaging.

Both speakers share many chapters from their lives, both in professional and personal contexts.

Dah shares her unconventional way of trying for her higher education pathways after 5 years of high school completion. She says some remarkable words from her brother, “ Trying doesn’t hurt. So, he told me to try as many schools as possible. And YES, you will face rejections. You will face acceptance. Then, you are accepted to 2 to 3 schools. Then, you have to make a decision about which school you want to go to.” In this way, Dah completed her undergraduate studies at a university in Hong Kong and entered the community development and Human Rights field after her graduation. Her story is really inspiring for our students, including us, who have unexpected obstacles in the way of completing our education.

The discussion attracts a diverse audience, including current cohorts, staff, alumni, and partner organisations, with their leadership experiences, communication strategies, and advice, and makes an interactive session with the questions and discussion points from the audience. In the Q&A session, most students asked questions related to their curiosity about career paths and also community leadership potential. Both Rani and Dah addressed all the questions of our students with realistic and impactful answers based on their lifelong experiences. Therefore, all the audiences, including our students, staff, and partners, can learn from their practical solutions to each question.

Moreover, both of the speakers are generous about sharing their knowledge and experiences from interdisciplinary perspectives, and learning resources, courses, and tools that are impactful for skill building and career development in any professional field. We also uploaded those tools and resources to our PUCDC webpage here.

PUCDC is grateful to Rani and Dah from Wedu Global for their time and contribution, and we look forward to continued collaboration with Wedu in supporting Parami students’ career development journeys.
