Led by Mia Sasaki, an instructor at Parami University, undergraduate students published their stories in the special edition of the Upper New Review this semester.

The panel was co-organized by the Indonesian Heritage Society and Parara, an organization promoting ethical handicrafts, and brought together voices deeply rooted in the region’s cultural landscape: Dr. Will Buckingham, writer, researcher, and Parami University faculty member; Poppy Barkah of Wastra Indonesia; Hiyashinte Klise, traditional arts activist and founder of the Lamerenan Foundation; and Yalanthy Masrikat, a master weaver from Tanimbar.

Parami signed a  Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Crossworks Myanmar, aiming to strengthen career development opportunities for Parami students across Myanmar.

The name BAREFACE carries intentional irony. Despite the masks covering the contributors’ faces, the choices of colors, shapes, and artistic styles reveal their emotions and experiences more honestly than bare skin ever could.

As higher education becomes increasingly out of reach for many young people in Myanmar, Parami remains a rare space where students can learn, lead, and dream freely.
