Virtual Town Hall Meetings with Parents, Guardians, and Students in the Spring Semester
Virtual Town Hall Meetings with Parents, Guardians, and Students in the Spring Semester

Parami University recently hosted two town hall meetings for the spring semester. These meetings brought together students, faculty, parents, and guardians to discuss the university's progress, address challenges, and foster a stronger academic community. The meetings provided a platform for open dialogue among participants, emphasizing collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Student Meeting Highlights

The meeting was attended by the university president, 101 students, faculty, and staff. Dr. Kyaw Moe Tun, president of Parami University, shared three key lessons he wished he had embraced during his undergraduate years while reflecting on his education journey.

  • Collaboration: He encouraged students to engage with peers, join clubs, and collaborate on research projects, leveraging Parami's online networks, such as OSUN.

  • Diverse Learning: Drawing from his experience as a science student who explored arts and humanities, he urged students to take diverse courses across disciplines to broaden their perspectives.

  • Leveraging Resources: Acknowledging the limited resources during his time, Dr. Kyaw Moe Tune highlighted the abundance of modern tools available at Parami University, including DataCamp and Google Courses, urging students to maximize these opportunities.

Encouraging Creativity and Initiative

As Parami University encourages creativity, Dr. Kyaw Moe Tun encouraged students to pursue value-added, impactful initiatives through a podcast. He discussed the Podcast Initiative, a platform where students can discuss intellectual topics creatively. Drawing inspiration from shows like This American Life, he encouraged students to develop hosting skills and engage with diverse ideas.

The Q&A session was engaging, featuring student questions. In addition to classes offered by Parami University, students were reminded of the many courses available through Parami's network and professional online platforms. One student expressed interest in enrolling in additional classes.

Addressing the Electricity Concern

As electricity and internet issues have worsened, the president assured students studying in Myanmar that the Student Affairs team is monitoring the situation and stands ready to provide any support they need.

Parent Meeting: Gratitude and Shared Aspirations

The meeting brought together 54 parents and guardians, highlighting the university’s commitment to inclusivity, addressing parental concerns, and celebrating achievements.

The president of Parmai University, Dr. Kyaw Moe Tun, proudly shared with parents the university’s three journeys, which have welcomed 230 students and aim to admit 120 more in this year's admissions.

Despite challenges such as political unrest, climate change, and limited resources, Paami University remains committed to delivering high-quality education. Scholarships covering 97% of tuition fees are available, and ongoing efforts support students in need.

Addressing Parental Concerns

A student's parent noted the intense first-semester workload and asked for suggestions on how to address it. Some first-year students may struggle to manage their workload in the first semester as they need time to adjust to the learning environment. This gesture demonstrates parents' involvement in their children’s education, motivating them to excel academically and socially. Students are encouraged to seek guidance from advisors and professors during office hours.

Another parent expressed concerns about supporting her daughter’s education. The president reassured her that scholarships would continue to alleviate financial burdens. Parami University believes that students' lack of financial resources should not deter them from obtaining a quality education. As a nonprofit institution, we encourage students to apply for financial aid if they need assistance.

Parents from diverse backgrounds shared heartfelt gratitude and appreciation for Parami University. Families from refugee camps expressed appreciation for the “non-discriminatory education opportunities” provided by Parami. Other parents expressed gratitude for both the “quality of education and the stipends,” while a proud aunt shared that her nephew’s “aspirations were revived through his studies at Parami.”

Dr. Kyaw Moe Tun discussed future opportunities, including setting up physical learning spaces. While logistical and political challenges currently hinder these plans, the university remains committed to exploring solutions.

Both events underscored Parami University’s mission to provide quality education amid adversity. From addressing students’ academic and logistical concerns to ensuring parental involvement, the discussions highlighted the collective effort required to nurture a thriving academic community.
