Parami University officially welcomed the Class of 2030 at a virtual Matriculation Ceremony on August 16, 2026, marking the beginning of a new chapter for Parami's new undergraduate students.

The ceremony is an opportunity for the new students to reflect on what lies ahead at Parami: an education that will challenge their ideas and views, encourage intellectual curiosity, and invite them to grow as members of a wider community.

Firstly, Mr. Zali Win, Chair of Parami University Board of Trustees, extended a warm welcome and congratulated the students on embarking on a new academic journey.

Mr. Zali Win said, “The community at Parami, including faculty members, teachers, staff, and all the supporting members of Parami, is committed to providing you with support as you can learn and grow. We also thank you for choosing Parami University for your journey. I wish you all success in your academic lives and future endeavors.”  Dr. Jonathan Becker, Acting President of Bard College, welcomed the new students by encouraging them to

recognize the importance of learning together and becoming part of a broader community in his remarks.

Dr. Becker asked, “What can we do together that we cannot do alone?” to emphasize the power of community and collaboration. He reminded students that they are part of a broader world and that their journey at Parami is connected to that broader part of the world, and to consider how their education can shape their role within it.

In the next session, Dr. Kyaw Moe Tun, President of Parami University, talked about the meaning of Parami as a growing circle and as something that continues to sprout.

He said, “You have demonstrated your concern and dedication to the community you live in. It is our hope that you extend the commitment and value out in the world even after graduating from Parami.”, reminding the students that their journey at Parami is connected to the communities they come from and the communities they will contribute to in the future.

He also invited students to choose two Parami values and write a 300-word reflection on how they connect to each other and their lives. He encouraged them to revisit the essay on graduation day and reflect on their journey.

Dr. Kyaw Moe Tun concluded his welcoming speech by saying: “Parami University education will be hard and challenging. There will be times when you even question yourself, your values, and that is ok. We believe that university is a place to challenge you, and we hope that Parami is the right space for you to challenge and see the changes in yourself.” Dr. Winmar Way, the Dean of Academic Affairs, also encouraged students to embrace the intensity of learning at Parami. To describe the start of the university experience, the Dean painted the picture by saying, “Studying at Parami is like drinking water from a water hose, which reminds me of Myanmar’s water festival where we are being sprayed with a water hose.” She further explained, “In the beginning, there will be a lot of information and knowledge thrown at you. You will be asked to develop your own thoughts; what is your insight? What is your argument? At first, it might feel intimidating, and it’s normal. That is how you are supposed to feel. Remember that you are here because you deserve to be here to take up space in this community of knowledge.”

Dr. Winmar Way then invited students to do a quiet reflective exercise by paying attention to their own reactions, noticing their thoughts and the “why” behind their choice to come to Parami, ultimately listening to what their inner knowing is telling them as they take in all the information of starting the university.

The most significant moment of the ceremony was the recitation of the Matriculation Oath. As a tradition at Parami, all new students read the oath together as a collective commitment to the university community. Officiated by Dr. Kyaw Moe Tun, students pledged to uphold the values of Parami University and commit to becoming responsible citizens and contributing members of the global community.

With the Matriculation Ceremony, the Class of 2030 officially begins its journey at Parami University.

In the coming weeks, the students will join orientation sessions to prepare themselves for the academic year ahead.

The orientation will include workshops led by faculty members and staff, including the Language and Thinking Workshop, which will help students prepare academically and build communication skills for liberal arts education. In addition, there will be sessions introducing students to academic support, student services, technology support, wellbeing, career development, and other resources available at Parami. Through the orientation sessions, new students will learn what they need to know about studying at Parami and become familiar with the transition into university life at Parami University.
