Parami University and Bard College develop an agreement to offer dual degrees

Updated: Sep 23, 2022

Parami University has had a long-standing partnership with the US liberal arts institution Bard College. Founded in 1860 and located at Annandale-on-Hudson in New York state, Bard College is well-experienced in developing liberal arts education programs globally. Parami University and Bard College have entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to form academic and institutional partnerships, including developing a dual degree program, subject to approval by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE), the institutional accreditor of Bard College.

The dual degree program will allow Parami University undergraduate students to obtain academic credit from Bard College and be awarded associate degrees from both Parami University and Bard College upon fulfillment of requirements set forth by both institutions in the first two years of study. Ultimately, the institutions seek to award dual Bachelor of Arts degrees - one from Parami University and one from Bard College - subject to further approval by relevant authorities and committees.

Bard College has entered into dual-degree arrangements with several international institutions, such as the American University of Central Asia in Kyrgyzstan, Al-Quds University in East Jerusalem, and Bard College Berlin in Germany. Parami University will be announcing updates on such arrangements in due course.

In addition to the academic partnership, the two institutions also collaborate on institutional strengthening and quality assurance.

About Parami University

Parami University has its roots in Burma (also known as Myanmar). With a vision to empower Burmese and other Southeast Asian students via liberal arts and sciences education, Parami started as Parami Institute of Liberal Arts and Sciences in 2017 to provide quality education to adult learners.

Parami University believes in the transformative power of higher education, and in particular, the liberal arts and sciences curriculum, to empower individuals and societies with self-determination. Given the limitations faced by many youths in Burma and Southeast Asia to access affordable, high-quality higher education degree programs, Parami University decided to become a fully-fledged online university and pursue a university license in the United States to expand higher education pathways.

In June 2022, Parami University was granted licensing from the Higher Education Licensure Commission (HELC) of Washington, D.C. in the United States to offer online Associate Degree and Bachelor’s Degree programs. The first undergraduate class of Parami University begins in the fall of 2022 and aims to welcome students from diverse backgrounds and walks of life.
