Steven is a sophomore majoring in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics at Parami University. This summer, he participated in the Get Engaged Conference in Berlin organized by the Open Society University Network and Bard College Berlin. As an alumnus of the Get Engaged Conference, he had the opportunity to apply for a Microgrant Application for OSUN and the Bard International Network Get Engaged 2024 Participants, and he was awarded $1000 to work on his civic engagement project.
His project, Vitalizing Student Research Initiative, aims to fill the educational gap of youths and students due to ongoing internal conflicts by educating and advocating for young generations through research and analytical skills for meaningful transformations in the future of Myanmar. His research program is unique in that it not only aims to equip fellow participants with research and analytical skills for their community and societal issues but also empowers them to advocate for positive changes through research-based solutions in their respective communities.
With this winning microgrant, Steven aims to organize a three-month virtual research training with three different phases: training, proposal development, and research writing. The proposed timeline is expected to be from December 2024 to February 2025. Through this Vitalizing Student Research Initiative Program 2024, Steven wants to enhance youths' academic knowledge of research writing and evidence-based policymaking.Â
The program will receive applications from people aged 18 to 25 from different places in Myanmar. It will support fellow participants with essential resources to complete the whole training. Fellow participants are expected to write capstone research on a group-based theme depending on their passions and interests in the community.
