In partnership with DataCamp Donate, the Tech Support Team at Parami University organized Data Hackathon 2024 in Mandalay, Myanmar, to offer Parami undergraduate students a unique opportunity to hone these skills through a dynamic, hands-on experience. This pioneering event was more than a competition—it served as a gateway to mastering essential data techniques and building critical thinking capabilities.

404 Squad team, the award-winning team

Six Parami students competed in the Data Hackathon. Each team tackled unique data challenges, including 1) Analyzing Customer Churn in Excel, 2) Fact-Checking Nutrition Data, 3) Cats vs. Dogs: The Great Pet Debate, 4) Analyzing Crime in LA, 5) Predicting Hotel Cancellations, and 6) How Much of the World Has Access to the Internet. The 404 Squad team won first prize in their project, Analyzing Customer Churn in Excel.

All projects were assessed based on analytical rigor, creativity, data interpretation, and presentation quality.

This Data Hackathon is a hands-on journey into the world of data analysis and storytelling. With access to DataCamp courses, students learned by doing—gaining practical experience in tools like Excel and Python.

“By applying these skills to real-world challenges, they don’t just explore data; they transform it into impactful insights and solutions,” said Mason from Parami University’s Tech Support Team, the organizer of the Data Hackathon.

The hackathon’s structured activities offered a rewarding experience, transforming raw data into compelling stories and actionable insights. The activities were designed to foster teamwork, creativity, and real-world problem-solving.

The participants of the Data Hackathon had an excellent opportunity to develop skills in data cleaning, data storytelling, data interpretation, teamwork, critical thinking, and problem-solving.
