About the Course
Course Overview
English for academic setting course is made up of 20 lessons of 1.5 hours each contained in 10 units (30 hours in total).
The course covers the common academic essays that the students will need to write in the higher education setting in which the students will develop academic and formal language skills, and participate in activities which develop critical thinking, communication, confidence, and analysis skills.
The course is for current and prospective university students and scholars in Myanmar, engaged in academic inquiry, research, publications and conferences. The course aims to support the learners’ emerging proficiency in academic writing, reading, presentation, and critical thinking skills.
By the end of this course, learners will be able to perform writing tasks in some rhetorical modes, write a basic essay using some of the appropriate academic conventions including appropriate use of sources, become familiar with academic writing style and the appropriate language, be familiar with citation formats and plagiarism policy.

Current and prospective university students and scholars in Myanmar, engaged in academic inquiry, research, publications and conferences.
Course Duration
English for Academic Settings will run from January 15 to Mar 31, 2026 (10 weeks).
Time: Tuesday and Thursday 7:00-8:30 PM
Course Fee
150,000 MMK (one hundred and fifty thousand kyats)
Important Note:
There are no scholarships or financial aid available for the professional development courses.

Teacher May Zin Nyein Ein
May Zin Nyein Ein is enthusiastic and passionate about teaching, especially to young adults in her Myanmar community. For over 14 years, she has worked as an instructor for both academic and proficiency-based learning needs. She was a former FLTA at UW Madison, and upon returning, she worked as a Burmese instructor at the US Embassy and English teacher at Liberal Arts Program at MIT. She had previously worked as a program instructor for AEM-Parami and a writing tutor at Parami Language and Learning Center. Currently, she is working as a language teacher at Parami Institute of Continuing Education.
Fun Fact:
Sloth is her all-time favorite animal!
